VLOG | Let's Catch Up!

Hello there! It has been over a month since the last vlog, and a lot has been going on in the riveting world of freelance illustration (and life). In this video I recap seven of the most exciting things, and further down the post I list all of the things with some added colors and links. Enjoy!

01. Being On A Podcast

I was on my first podcast! (Very exciting stuff for a podcast junkie.) It's called Being Freelance, hosted by Steve Folland. During the interview I go through the entire journey of leaving my corporate career and starting my freelance illustration business. As per usual, I'm pretty honest about it all - the good, the bad, the anxiety, the awkward. If you've got 42 mins to spare, give it a listen and let me know what you think!

02. A Portfolio Refresh

Being Spring, and everything I figured it was time to refresh my portfolio. I've been doing a lot of new watercoloring of late, incorporating a lot of pattern into my work which I'm loving. On top of that, my agent Teresa (of Bookmark Literary) was printing off all of her clients portfolio to take to meetings with editors and art directors, so that gave me a nice deadline for motivation.

03. Making a Product Line

I am in the process of making a new product line out of some of my new school patterned watercolors - thinking textiles and paper goods like notebooks and such. Right now I'm knee-deep in sourcing vendors and pricing and all of that fun stuff, if anyone knows of any good textile printers let me know!

04. Sitting With Babies

Been hanging out loads with my seriously adorable nephew Will. He's my little muse. There's something about being around him that's so inspiring. The way he's so full of wonder about every little thing he sees. Also, his tiny toes.

05. A Package From SomebodyElsa!

I have been a fan of my internet buddy @somebodyelsa's work ever since I discovered her last year. She is a freelance illustrator based in Lisbon, Portugal and runs an Etsy shop full of cheeky prints and cards and calendars.

06. Four Hands Collection Deux

I debuted my second fine art collection with my furniture client FourHands in Highpoint, North Carolina. The furniture market revolves around a handful of trade shows throughout the year, and this was one of the biggies.

This collection was done in three themes with thirty pieces. Some of the inspiration behind it were viking tattoos, Lichtenstein and the desert. I can't wait to hear how it went and show you guys the goods.

07. Trip to NYC >>

Took a ten day soul adventure in one of my favorite cities in the world, New York, New York. I moved away three years ago and it still feels like home. It's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and flow of that city.

One of the highlights of the trip was catching up with all of my friends. I went to visit my SCAD-lady Sarah in her Williamsburg Studio where she makes these incredibly chic Brooklyn Rag Dolls.

I also spend lots of quality time with my bestie Erica (collectively we are known as Jerica). She is a constant source of inspiration to me, and has a really interesting story of her own. A few years back, she quit her job at Vanity Fair to travel the world and take photos. For a good dose of daily wanderlust, I highly recommend her Instagram feed
